Jr High 6th-8th

Students have completed their learning Launcher Challenges this week & the 7th & 8th grades began sharing their presentations. The 6th graders will need to complete creating their Google Slide presentations by Tues when they will begin sharing with the class.

Please verify your journals & presentation follow the naming convention & are located under your STEAM 2021 2022 folder that is shared with your partner & srunge@stujuliana.org.

2nd – Students are rotating between STEAM and TECH classes. Last week was STEAM and their assignment was to build an animal out of Zoobs.

Last week, all students in 3rd -8th were able to learn about Internet Safety from Kathleen McGowan from the Cook County ICAC Task Force . There was a lot of good information and questions. Students have started their first Learning Launcher Technology Challenge. They are working in partners and having the opportunity this year to use the kits and trying some of the new things, including a green screen for some filming projects. 3rd Students used Goobies & Geoshapes to create their initials and will begin to learn what a learning launcher is and explore the Comic Life app.

2nd Students will be alternating between STEAM & Tech classes. Make sure their headphones are not wireless and fit into the connectors for the ipads. Our first STEAM class was last week and they used Goobies & Geoshapes to create their initials.

3rd-8th

Students have been learning lessons involving Digital Citizenship. They have also been practicing their typing skills using accounts at www.typing.com. We will be having a guest speaker next week during all our Tech classes from the States Attorney’s office. Her name is Kathleen McGowan and she is from the Illinois ICAC Task Force to share information about Internet Safety.

I hope everyone had a relaxing & enjoyable summer and is looking forward to getting back to a school routine! I will be teaching 3rd-8th STEAM and K-8th TECH. We will be back to classes in the STEAM lab and working with partners again and taking the necessary safety precautions.

TECH – We will be starting off with learning about Digital Citizenship and practicing our typing skills using the www.typing.com site.

STEAM – We will be exploring several of the kits and software in the STEAM lab , similar to what we did two years ago. Looking forward to a great year!

6th – Complete your Bridge Designer presentations & verify they are shared with me. The requirements are found in Google Classroom and when you return, we will start with them since we have one more big project to complete.

3rd – We had fun creating our straw rockets & testing them in the courtyard today. We will be measuring and analyzing the distances that they traveled next week.

Imagination Playground 3D Builder App Review

When there was no internet access for the past week, students in K-8 got to try some apps on the iPads that didn’t require internet access. One of these was Imagination Playground. Students were able to design using blue shaped blocks to construct playground items. They were then able to project their images into the room using the software and experience Augmented Reality (AR).
