Room 2 News!

All Aboard Room 2…Linked to our new big idea, Transportation is for doing jobs and getting around my community, the children enjoyed going on a bus ride. We encouraged the children to look out the windows on the bus and describe the community places they could see.

The children also enjoyed driving a toy car and stopping for the crossing guard and letting the pedestrians cross the road safely. Great fun!

Distances: Is It Close? Is It Far?…We encouraged the children to decide if something is close, closer, far or farther away. We encouraged the children to work out the distance between different objects on the math mat by counting the squares.

We are asking students to make a monetary donation during the week of November 16th-20th. Once we have collected the money from the students we will convert the money into gift cards and donate the gift cards to the missionary team to buy the gifts for the program. Today we began our second big idea, The workers in my community help everyone. This morning we discussed community workers. The children enjoyed the big book, Jobs, and making a book describing jobs that help.

Distances Near and Far…This morning we introduced distance. We explained distance as how far one thing is from another. The children enjoyed working out distances by counting squares. We encouraged the children to use distance words such as close, closer, far, and farther. An extension to this big experience at home would be to encourage the children to work out distances by counting their footsteps e.g. what’s the distance from the front door to the kitchen, what’s the distance from the mailbox to their front door.

Weaving…A fine motor activity. The children enjoyed weaving strips in alternating over and under patterns. A fun fine motor activity!
