Because she was stuffed.

Mrs. Costello, Mrs. Flood, Mrs. Wyszkowski, and I would like to wish all our Room 2 Families a very happy and blessed Easter. All our Room 2 Families are in our thoughts and prayers.
Our Lenten journey has been a journey of kindness and prayer. Please encourage your child to reflect on all the kind choices they made during this season of Lent.

Bouncy Egg Experiment!

Scientist Claire…Please click on the following link to watch Scientist Claire trying to make a bouncy egg! I think our Room 2 Scientists will enjoy Scientist Claire! Please have fun trying this experiment at home. We left the egg in the vinegar for two days so maybe try three days and then see if the egg will bounce!
Questions to consider:
What do you think will happen?
What does happen?
Why do you think that happened?
If you add food coloring to the vinegar you can make a colored bouncy egg. Also using a flashlight to look through the membrane is really cool! Please have your child draw and label a picture of the results. I would love to see a photo of our Room 2 Scientists!

Each word family is a different color. Shuffle the cards to mix the colors and in the first round every time a red card is put down the other player has to say a rhyming word for that word family. In the following round every time a red or blue card is put down the other player has to say a rhyming word for those word families and so on. If the player can think of a rhyming word they win that round or they win the pile of cards. Whoever has won the most rounds or whoever has the most cards at the end wins the game. https://youtu.be/H8_kpWEwhqU
Follow-up activities linked to this big book:
A Counting Story: Please encourage your child to help you write a counting story by saying the animal names. The animal should match the action word e.g. what animal can run? Then please have your child draw a picture of the animals for each sentence. Please encourage your child to retell their counting story.
My Counting Story
1_____________________on the run.
2_____________________have some fun.
3_____________________flit around.

5_____________________on the flowers.
I Spy Picture: Please encourage your child to create their own I Spy picture. For example they could hide two ants in their garden picture. They could also create a flap to hide their ants under.
Sing and Act It Out: Another big book we really enjoyed this year was Over in the Meadow. Please click on the following link to hear the song Over in the Meadow. https://watchkin.com/30b65ee6b3
Please sing the song below to the tune of Over in the Meadow and encourage your child to act out being a small seed, a young seedling, and finally a blooming flower.
Over in the meadow with rake and a hoe,
The gardener plants some seeds in a nice straight row.

“Grow,” says the light.
And the (leaves, stem, flowers) grow and grow just right.

Seed Watchers…Please take a look at the science poster above. Please discuss with your child what are the children doing? Please point to the seedling. This baby plant grew from a tiny seed and will grow some more. The children could create a thinking map, a flow map, to show the sequence seed, seedling/sprout, plant. Please encourage your child to number and label each box in their flow map. They could also draw an arrow between the boxes. An arrow is a tricky shape to draw. Something to practice.

Please encourage your child to draw their prediction about what they think will happen to the seeds. If you can please copy and print the chart below or create your own chart to record what happens to the seeds over a 10-day period. I would love to see a photo of your plants when they grow!
